The STEP program has entered into an innovative partnership with the American Hotel and Lodging Association,
the CIDA CPEC project and the Caribbean Hospitality Training Institute to adapt AHLA training materials and certification to the Caribbean reality for small hotels. This adaptation process
was several "master trainers" from the region and
successful pilot testing of the program in Barbados and
Grenada. The Materials will form the basis for STEP training programs for small hotels for food and beverage and rooms/housekeeping/front office staff. More information on this program is available in the

CIDA CPEC is continuing it's support for this project with funding
for a train the trainer session for an additional 60 trainers from
the region and application of the program for over 2000 hotel
employees in 2002.
Recently, the STEP program has developed a training program
involving the deployment of hotel operations and management
specialists through the Canadian Executive Services Overseas (CESO).
To date, the following countries have received assistance under the
program; Antigua, Belize, Dominica, Trinidad & Tobago, St.
Lucia, Jamaica, Grenada, and Barbados. This training has been
very well received by the small hotel community and will be continued
for the foreseeable future in all participating countries.
